I've decided to take to the forums to get help with this problem. I've contacted Minecraft Support numerous times and received completely irrelevant or unhelpful responses. I'm sick of screwing around with this and I need an actual solution to this problem. The day I purchased and downloaded minecraft on my account, The_Epic_Lizard, to my Windows 7 computer, I was able to log in. Then my game crashed and when I restarted it I couldn't log in.
I am connected to the internet and have no trouble connecting in any other game. I have no issues with Java or anything else. I haven't been able to log in since then and I would love to actually play on a server. It's really annoying to have to just play by myself all the time. I want to experience multiplayer for once! I just want this fixed. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I have Minecraft downloaded on my new Macbook Pro. I play on the same account and I can sign in, but the laptop isn't meant for gaming so I don't often play on it and it wouldn't cope with connecting to a server plus the strain of rendering and whatnot.
It's clearly not a problem with my account as I can sign in on my laptop with the same username. I've tried deleting the entire Minecraft folder from my %appdata% folder and redownloading it, but it doesn't help. I tried that again today feeling hopeful, but now I can't even play offline. Instead of 'can't connect to Minecraft.net' like it usually says, now it says 'not downloaded'. What the hell? Clearly I've downloaded the game if I have the application open right in front of me and I'm trying to sign in to it.
This is the most annoying problem, honestly. Also, it won't let me update. I've tried waiting for an update notification and I've tried forcing an update, but it does nothing. I've been playing on 1.4.1 for a while but now I don't even get that, I can't play at all any more.
This is really frustrating and upsetting, and I'm sick of screwing around with Minecraft Support because they are completely useless. Someone, anyone, please help me fix this!

Lizzie if Tedster's suggestion doesn't work for you, try running this error tester and post a copy of the report here. Perhaps we can spot something to help you get this resolved.
