I'm not sure if this is the right section for this, but I have a question pertaining to Slime spawning.
I'm making an adventure map, and a recurring (and very irritating) problem is that Slimes spawn all over the place. With their noise, numbers and ease of spawning, I'm about ready to pull my hair out from frustration. The world is a superflat one, and I've created all of the land features myself, if that matters.
I don't want to remove Slimes entirely from the world (in fact, I have a part of the map where it is necessary to fight Slimes, though they are spawned with a Spawn Egg Dispenser), I just want to keep them out of the areas of my map where they aren't wanted. The best way I can imagine doing this is by deleting the bit of data that makes a chunk a Slime chunk.
The problem is, I have no clue how to do that, or if it is possible. Davidee's Mob Control mod looked good, but it hasn't been updated in ages and I'm not sure if the mod is required client-side for it to work. I'm thinking NBTEdit/NBTExplorer might be capable of it, but again, I don't know what to do or if it is in fact possible. Please keep in mind that I'd really rather not require people to download a mod in order to play my map as it is intended - largely Slime-free - and that making the map in a new world wouldn't work, as I've already put too much work into this map.
So I guess my question is, is it possible to turn Slime chunks into normal chunks? And if so, how? And if not, what else can I do?
I think I saw a no slime mod for superflat worlds. Do a search. I'm having the same problem in my normal (not superflat) world ever since 1.4. The spawn rate is insane.

I think the author said that Slime Spawn Eggs still work, which is good. As long as it will work for people downloading the map for use with vanilla Minecraft, it will be perfect. I'll ask about that. Thanks very much! I tried searching for just about everything, but nothing to do with superflat worlds
Or you could just use MCedit to move the map above Y=40 (unless you need the build height).
I thought about that, but couldn't that potentially mess up signs and redstone? The map is already quite sizable, and going back to fix those things would be more than tedious. I may need the build height, but 40 blocks isn't all that much since the world is 256 high now.
Sorry. I was wrong. Must have gotten lucky for a day. Yesterday the slime infestation was back... SIX of them were piled all over my main building site. Takes forever to kill them all and they don't die in sunlight, so unless you like hearing them fapping all day, you have to go out and kill them until the chunk spawns new ones.
Not sure who thought that was a good idea, but they were wrong. We don't need sticky piston glue THAT much.

Agreed. I guess I'm back to square one, unless I decide to just have people download the Slime-less superflat mod. It's only one class file, so at least it's not a lot.

The other option is to use BiomePainter to change the biomes on your map to something other than swamp, where the slimes spawn. I've just had problems with the BiomePainter interface, as you have to know the coordinates of areas you want to change, and of course it changes your biomes, so that's a PITA, but it's a workaround for now.
I gotta say, 20% of my game time now consists of slime removal. Annoying.

It's a superflat world, so there are no biomes to speak of... Though it once did glitch a bit and there's one chunk that is of the swamp biome, the rest of the map is just plain old superflat.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
