Hi guys, I recently started playing minecraft and am having a lot of fun with it but I'm only getting around 10 FPS on default settings in some biomes and from 20-40 in others. I've installed optifine, tried allocating more Ram to minecraft, setting process priority to high and setting affinity to different cores. With all those things done My fps doesn't budge a lot, maybe gains 2 or 4 more. The only thing that lets me get around 60 FPS is setting render to short and graphics to fast
My specs are:
Toshibia Qosmio x870
Windows 7
Intel i7-3610M CPU 2.30GHz
16.0 GB RAM
64-bit Operating System
Nvidia GeForce GTX 670M Graphics Card
On other games that are more graphic demanding, such as Skyrim, Battlefield, and Darksouls on high graphics there is no frame lag and play smooth. This is why I'm baffled at why minecraft gets such poor FPS on my computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sometimes it makes no difference what is done to try to increase FPS. NASA computers wouldn't run Minecraft properly. Try Java 1.6 if you are using Java 1.7.
Make sure, minecraft/java are running on your nvidia card rather then the integrated graphics in the i7.
Most laptops don't think java apps need to use the dedicated card, and instead use the integrated chip for them to save power.
There should be options to set what graphics get used in the nvidia control panel.
Try allocating only 1GB. Java is more busy just looking at your RAM than running your game.
Also this. Unless you are running shaders or 512mb+ textures, no need to give MC more then the default memory. I run about 35-40 mods, and actually reduce the memory allocated to 768mb and have no problems.
(I did need to increase to 2Gb when I ran shaders for a bit)

Would there happen to be a tutorial on this? because I don't see an option to do what you said

Retired StaffAbout 1:00 in this one shows how to change the defaults.
This vid, shows how to set it up so you can override the defaults.
- 10+=Good
- 9-4=Fair
- 3-2=Low quality
- 1-0=Bad
The max FPS I got was like, maybe 13 FPS.Wow! This worked! I'm now getting 150 fps instead of 10! Thanks a lot!
