What is the consensus on making Minecraft use 64-bit Java? Does it have any other effects than increasing the amount of RAM available to the game? Are there any risks associated with it?
There have been some issues with minecraft if you install 32-bit Java on a 64-bit system. It seems to be due to some pathing errors. The reason people say that 64-bit is better is because of this issue. If you have a 32-bit operating system, then you should install 32-bit java. If you have a 64-bit system, then I recommend that you install 64-bit Java. (But make sure you also have 32-bit Java installed if you are using a 32-bit browser).
