Hiya everyone, I'm hoping for someone who can hopefully help me...
It seems that this is a VERY complicated issue, and I am completely stumped after much Googling and research.
Minecraft will crash on me either as I close the game, or after 5-15 minutes of gameplay randomly. Sometimes it gives me the Java error and a windows crash report, but not always. This issue seems to be very unique, and is NOT what you think it might be.
Here are some prerequisites and things I've already tried:
+ Made sure I had x86( 32bit) ANDx64 (64 bit) of Java installed.
+ Latest drivers and updates.
+ Forced updates.
+ Delete .minecraft and force updates.
+ Reinstall Windows 7 x64.
+ Replaced Motherboard, RAM and SSD's. (Did not do this because of the issue, but it was a change none the less)
+ Yelled at my computer.
+ Pet my cat.
+ Yelled at my other cat.
NONE of these managed to solve my problem, and here I am unable to play one of my favorite games...
Only other possible thing I could think of is faulty GPU (Doubtful, it handles other games just fine) or hardware / software incompatibility.
I'm at a loss here... Anyone have any ideas? I'm hoping playing at 6050x1080 isn't killing the game. It was supported in the past, but maybe updates changed that?
System Specs:
CPU: i7 3960x
Mobo: ASRock x79 Extreme 6
RAM: 32GB G.Skill Ripjaw Z 1866MHz
GPU: Nvidia GTX 690
SSD: 512GB OCZ Vertex 4 SSD for OS, and games (The drive Minecraft is on)
PSU: 1200w Antec TPQ
EDIT: I have switched out my GTX 690 for two GTX 680 4GB cards. Still don't know if it's an SLI issue.
Thanks everyone, and let me know what you think. ~Jessekin
You've done your homework...pretty much everything.
I simply don't get it. You've got the best computer in the world and you can't even run MC, Java just freezing.
I'm sorry. Maybe we can get some of the highly-trained experts on the case.
I'm just glad I'm not the only one stumped. I hope someone can help me
I've been trying to play MC with my girlfriend and little brother, but can't because of the crashing.
Anyone with some insight on the issue? Thanks in advance.
Was able to play for a stable 20 or so minutes before I got bored with TNT. I will continue to see if the problem persists tomorrow afternoon. No Idea why I was stable all of a sudden.
Do you have a single graphics card? Try that instead of your 690
I don't. The closest I could get to a single GPU would be disabling SLI on the 690. But then I can't use Nvidia Surround either xD (at least with my input configuration...)
Yeah if it keeps crashing try disabling SLI because my 7970's in crossfire would make some block textures flicker, also if that still doesn't work try using the beta nVidia drivers. Good luck
Do you need Java 32bit for some reason? If you don't have a specific need then I recommend removing it as it just complicates things. Sometimes your install will grab the 32bit Java and run on it even though you have both. If you do need both then you need to find out which one minecraft is running on.
Oh, and yelling at cats is ineffective. No lord gives heed to a lowly servant misbehaving.
Still have my this issue accruing... Anyone else have any ideas? Is there maybe somewhere I can go, or someone specifically I can talk to to resolve this problem?

Yes, from what I've read, you do. So I did. I've tried without it, and with it. same issue.
Also, yelling at cats is held as the highest level of frustraiting manual labor in some countries. I worked very hard to muster up the strength to yell at one of my cats. I also compromised myself, can you imagine what would happen to me if the rest of the internet got word of this? Unimaginable pain...
I'm having this EXACT same issue as I'm also running a 690. I crash every 5-15 minutes and when I hit "exit game". Hopefully a fix will be posted soon since this is getting annoying!
Possible fix found! Try disabling both "NVIDIA High Definition Audio" things in device manager! It's under "sound video and game controllers". I haven't crashed since I did this!

Created account just for this - I disabled all extraneous playback devices and VIOLA! No issues

I don't have NVidea audio, so this isn't necessarily the cause of the problem. Same problem as OP here, and I've looked everywhere for a solution :/
I have a Radeon 6770 graphics card. Can play the Witcher 2 on the best settings but can't handle Minecraft for longer than a minute. It used to work, but this Java SE Binary thing has been crashing it for a few months now.
Jessekin, have you found a fix yet? I had the same problem as you and just solved it.
Turns out, I had disabled Java SE Binary as an add-on in Mozilla Firefox. After enabling that, I was able to play the game without any problems whether or not I was playing the game in the browswer. For Firefox, it's just the top left Firefox tab, then add-ons. If Java SE Binary says "disabled," enable it and see if it works. I can't believe what a simple fix this was D=
You might not have disabled it. Firefox disabled it automatically this week after the latest Java 7 security holes were made public. But the plugin only matters if you are playing in your browser. You're probably better off not running in your browser.
Alright... So I'm back, and so is my issue. The ONLY fix I was able to find was get rid of my 690... I replaced it with Two GTX 680 FTW+ 4GB cards. The issue was gone when I only had one card, but since adding my second card, the issue has returned...
SO my assumptions would lead me to believe it's an issue with SLI, as Regi24 had suspected. I don't know if it's SLI, or something that comes with having SLI, but my issue is back... I tried disabling Nvidia Hi-Def Audio in my Device Manager, but still no go. The game still crashes.
Anyone have any other ideas? I don't use, nor have I ever installed Firefox on my current install of Windows. So I doubt firefox has anything to do with it.
Sadly, it's the same error over... and over.. and over... and over again....
PLEASE anyone.. I need your help... I can't play Minecraft with my GF or lil brother anymore D':

Sadly I'm in the same boat as you are. :/ I'm not entirely sure what to do besides disable SLI when I play Minecraft. That's the last thing i want to do though, since I run one monitor off each "card" in the 690. If I disable SLI, I lose a monitor. Minecraft is really behind the times. I wish Mojang would take a year or so to rewrite Minecraft in an actual game engine that isn't Java. :/
Issue is still ongoing. Haven't found a single fix, and I never get a chance to find an error log to post. Only way to see anything other than a black screen after it crashes, it to hope that you can click around or hit enter and close the "Has stop working" window. It closes another window with it, and I think i've been able to read them before, I think one might contain collapsible error information.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..

I never get an error log. It just crashes and says Java has stopped responding. Half the time it doesn't even say that and just instantly CTD.
