Anyone else having this problem? Well two problems, actually. Not sure if they are related.
The first problem is that my animals (both wolves and cats) have a habit of sitting on my furniture (chests, inside a cauldron, on a "couch" I made, etc.) When they do this, they don't seem to respond to right-clicking. They are stuck in "sit" mode. I can feed them and they will get the mating hearts, but they won't move, won't teleport to me if I move farther away, nothing.
So I tried breaking the chest they are sitting on, and sometimes that works, sometimes they fall through the floor and then I hear them screaming in agony and then they die.
Anyone else experiencing any of this? I am getting more and more frustrated with pets and am ready to just not have them. I'm playing 1.4.5, for what it's worth.
it takes up to 5 bones / raw fish to make them yours. and yes cats will jump on the chests its really annoying
I think you may have misunderstood the question. These are already tamed. They don't respond to right-click, but they respond to feeding to put in love mode. I can't get them to move to mate, though, because they won't respond to right-click.
Mine will teleport if they are active. If they are stuck in sit mode and won't respond to right-click, then they won't teleport either. I am using SPC, but that's the only mod I use. I have had this problem without SPC as well.
I think we have the same situation. the seated or inactive pets won't teleport. Whether they are seated on the chest or on the ground, I can't get them active by right clicking. When I try to destroy the ground they just go down one level but stay seated.
I did not try yet, since I put the new version, to tame a dog or cat in order to see if the problem remains with newly tamed animals.
Definitely sounds like we have the same problem. Let me know if you have any luck with newly tames animals. I did try spawning an ocelot egg using SPC and I couldn't even tame it. It gave me love hearts but then ran away and never came back. Doesn't respond to right-click at all. It's like animals are completely bugged. I will see if I can get a chance tonight to do a "natural" taming and see if that makes a difference.
Hell ! that's weird.
i'll let you know (i'll go into that tomorrow, it's already 10 pm for me and I quit.)
Otherwise an other idea I just got could be to look into the minecraft forge version. I used the last forge version recommended 6.4.0.397
And by the way I play only in survival mode at the moment. Not using eggs.
I'm not using Forge, so we can rule that out. I do also play in Survival mode. Haven't seen if the problem is in other modes or not.
Same issue with cats... not sure on the dogs. Mine sit and won't move .... but here is the catch....
This only happens when I am logged in. The world I play (at work... ya I know) is never logged in and the cats play nice all the time.
Then with the same save file and same version .. (1.4.5 and 12w50b) at home and logged in... and the cats sit and won't move!
So now that I know when it happens this still does not fix the problem.

WTH is "mwynwyr" ... you ask?
Well it is Welsh for miner. Don't even ask how to pronounce it LOL.
initially i found your question through google because i had the same problem, but then i solved one issue, so i made my account to share this. punching your wolf will make him start following you again. doesn't work for cats, however ): i killed my cat in trying.
