I have an older desktop (Pentium 4 3GHZ, 2.5 GB of RAM, Windows XP Home and until recently a 512MB HIS Radeon X1650 on AGP). It's pretty ancient, but it does what I want it to do, including play Minecraft without much trouble.
A few weeks ago, the video card kicked the bucket in glorious fashion (fan stopped spinning on it and it heated up to the temperature of the sun). Because of those circumstances, it also took the AGP slot out on my motherboard.
Because my computer is so old, I don't have PCI-E slots on my motherboard, so I ended up getting a PCI video card: a 512MB Nvidia Geforce 6200.
Now when I launch Minecraft, it takes forever to load to the Mojang Screen and then forever to load to the Menu screen and then it's impossible to do anything/the program locks up. In Task Manager, javaw.exe is taking up as much processor power as it can (97%) and has to be stopped manually in order to get Minecraft to even close.
There's no error message, the program just churns and churns.
I've tried reinstalling Minecraft, updating java, going with the java beta and allocating extra RAM to Minecraft to see if that changes anything, but no dice. My motherboard doesn't have integrated video, so it isn't like the program is trying to run off the wrong video information.
Anyone have any ideas on how I can get my Minecraft running again?

Is it simply because of the limited speed/capacity with PCI when compared to AGP and PCI-E?
