When playing the game for a while, the laptop gets hot and eventually turns off (no stop error / BSoD). This is not new to Windows 8 being on it. It happened with the OS originally installed also (Windows 7 Pro x64).
Another idea is to reduce your heat load by managing your play settings. Enabling Vsync which will limit your FPS to your screen resolution might help keep your GPU from running full bore and cranking out so much heat.
Your problem is exactly why I'm leery of a power laptop like that. Yes it's powerful, but is the cooling ability sufficient to warrant that power?
Laptop specs:
Version of Java:
*Your Fan Vents are being Blocled.
*Minecraft/Other Games Are Overheating your Video Card
Get Speedfan and tell use your temp. of your cpu and video card before and while playing minecraft
Or Buy a Cooling Pad for your laptop.
Just take a screenshot for speedfan and upload it to us. it will look something like this

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
