Hello everyone, I recently upgraded my graphics card from my old crappy card. I bought a GeForce GTX 650 OC edition.
My computer specs:
Windows XP
AMD Phenom 9500 Quad Core
2.20Ghz with 3.12 GB RAM
I was told the new card can run most of the games at high or even ultra settings, so I definitely expected a high fps from this upgrade. Yet, I am only getting 35-50 fps compared to 25-35 fps from using my old card. I don't think my processor is that bad or my new video card. What do you guys think of this?
PS: I am running the highest setting on minecraft with the exception of render distance of normal since I have a 32 bit OS.
I think your video card is going into a power saving mode or not enough power going to the video card. What power supply you have and how many watts is it?
I should also add just in case make sure you have the newest video drivers and make sure you have removed the old video drivers before updating. You would also see a better boost if you had a 64bit OS .
(your processor is kind of old but shouldn't effect major loss of FPS like that)
I have the PurePower ATX 12V 2.0 and have 600 Watts. My old video card driver is removed and I just got my new card installed yesterday so it's updated. Yeah people have told me it's my CPU but honestly I don't think my CPU is that bad to give a low FPS. Any other solution?
I also ran a Performance Test from PassMark and got a rating of 923.6 overall

Nothing about your system sounds like a big problem to me. At least you got a fairly good FPS boost. Quite possibly your lower performance than could be expected is due to running 32bit java. Java64bit runs minecraft noticeably better.
I am thinking of upgrading to Windows 7 with 64 bit OS. However, would I need more RAM to make the performance better or would my current RAM be sufficient? I'm not sure if my video card 1GB memory contributes to my RAM usage but just wanted to state that my card holds 1GB memory as well.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
