My son's computer seems to be having a problem with Minecraft. It freezes, bith when we are playing as a LAN and when he's playing by himself. I was going try to uninstall and reinstall the game, but I can't find a way to do so--not even through the Windows control panel.

I did search here, but didn't find a post specific to the problem. Doubtless this is a total noob question, sorry.

Make sure you backup his worlds folder in there or they will be lost. Doubtful this will solve the issue though. There were some LAN issues with 1.4.4 and I'm not sure if 1.4.5 fixed them or not. LAN problems can be caused by so many things and I'm not so great at networking so I hesitate to try and help with them.

Would it work better if we downloaded the server software and ran one of the computers as a server? Although it freezes when he's playing by himself sometimes. Only on Minecraft--he plays a number of other games without problems.

As long as the computer hosting the server has decent specs I think that would work better. It's a little more involved setting up and running the server. I've used the instructions on the wiki here for using the Jar and making a launcher.bat file with success.
