Hello Minecraft community,
While making my custom map, I decided to make maps for people to explore the redstone. However, I ran into a couple of problems here:
1) When using the vanilla 1.4 maps, I wanted to make the spawn room the CENTER of the map. Unfortunately, I got two halfs.
I want the map to NOT show any chunks to the LEFT of the symmetrical sand and to the RIGHT of the water tunnel. Is there a way to set a center chunk for maps?
2) Is there a possible way to make a map or cartograph of a set height? I do not want the map to show anything above Y=65.
Expanding the map once won't center everything, but it will get everything in one map, albeit at a lower resolution.
Or you can take both maps and make a custom image and then use ImageToMap to put the image into a single map. I believe this will still work even with the new format, although you may have to figure a few things out. The map item pixel size is still the same and I think the file type is the same.

Not really. Depends on which side you would rather have more of the surrounding terrain showing. If you expand the first map then you will have the rest of the base on the right and more open terrain on the left.

However, I want the right half of the first map and the left half of the second map to be ALL in one map. Leaving out the other terrain.

I tried the ImageToMap option, taking pictures of Rei's Minimap Full Map.
The quality was very awful.
How so? Can you upload an example? I believe there is a color palette addition that can expand the colors supported. Look through the thread some more. It's been awhile since I looked at that.
I think the color palette thing I mentioned will help the import look better. I hadn't thought about the location marker being broken.
Pretty sure you're not going to get everything you want in this case. You'll either have to make a static map just showing the area you want using ImageToMap or use the existing map function. One idea I just had was to see if you can use a block to fool the mapping program. For example what if there was a layer of glass blocks high above the terrain, how would the map program render that?

I don't know how to convert an image to use the color palette. Any help or tutorials would be appreciated.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
Does it matter which side I expand the map(s)?

However, when ported with ImageToMap
A problem with ImageToMap is that the player cannot see their cursor/point on the map.
