Alrighty, so I've been building things in Creative mode for an upcoming adventure map, and occasionally - as would be expected - it starts to rain. During this time lightning starts some fires, which won't spread because I've set the gamerule "doFireTick" to false (also, it's raining. Duh). However, even while it's raining these lightning-based fires are not extinguished - instead, I have to manually run around and extinguish them myself.
I have tested this in both a regular and flat world, as well as seeing whether or not gamerule "doFireTick" changed anything with the fires. Unfortunately, it does not, but if you turn "doFireTick" off the fires will begin to spread once the rain has stopped. So my question is: what is causing this? Is this just some new bug that prevents fires from being put out automatically by rain? Or is there something else I haven't thought of at play?
Also, for the record, this is in single-player only. I know that sometimes this problem occurs in SMP, but I haven't opened my game world to LAN, so that shouldn't be the issue.
It could be an issue with the dofiretick rule when enabled regarding lightning. Perhaps the client quits checking to extinguish lightning fires? Have you tried messing with a flint and steel to see if those fires do the same thing?
At any rate sounds like something you should search the Mojira bug reporting site to see if it is reported. If not report it.
Is there a solution to this problem yet? It has been an issue in every version of 1.4 I've seen so far. My players are getting sick of playing "fireman" every time there's a thunderstorm.

It appears that the problem - at least in singleplayer - is caused when you change the gamerule "dofireTick" to "false." Lightning will still cause the fires, however the state of the fire cannot change (meaning it cannot spread NOR can it be put out automatically by water) without player intervention. What this means is that, while there are no more raging forest fires, you will end up with a bunch of random single flames after a thunderstorm.
So unless you're really worried about fire getting out of hand or spreading in a certain location, it's probably a good idea to leave firespread on and let the rain put out those fires.
They used to be ghost fires, and I would run right through them. Was a bit of a surpirse when THAT changed...
One of my biggest players would freak out if his wood roof houses or forest got toasted, even slightly, but I might try waiting for rain and then turning on fireTick, then back off again. Think that would work?

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
