I've tried on several computers, low and high spec and do not understand it. Whenever I start a new world (completely unmodified Minecraft), I am stuck just slightly in a block underneath me.
Sometimes I can dig myself out, other times not. Sometimes I start in the dreaded void and spawn underground / water and usually die.
Anyone have any idea why this is happening? It's like the world doesn't build fast enough and I need more time before "dropping into it". As I say this happens on a very high spec rig and medium computers too =S
What happens if you hit escape and wait for awhile as soon as the world starts to load? If that works for you then it may be that the world just isn't rendering fast enough for you. If that doesn't work then some other issue may be going on.

I've tried all settings to minimum, but no joy =(
Thank you for any help you can offer.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
Still occurs, I get stuck in a block of dirt :| Thank you for responding though.
Tried, even though I have the latest version, thank you also for the idea however.
