I got a genuine Windows 8 computer and Minecraft won't work. I put the .minecraft folder in its place and start the Minecraft client. I got a "Can't connect to minecraft.net" so I clicked on "Play Offline." Then I froze on a black screen. No "Bad video drivers!" or anything. Just a pitch black window. Anyone know what's the problem?

First, why would you place the .minecraft folder, instead of just running the exe?

Need the top portion of the error logger as well.

And I would delete the .minecraft folder.. then run the exe. all the path not found errors seem to say your .minecraft folder is junk.

java doesn't handle that well.

Your options are to create a new user account on windows (renaming this one won't help it doesn't change the folder names), or to use an alternate launcher.
MultiMC allows you to move the install directory to something not in your user path.
Download MultiMC, and place it in a folder in your c:\ drive, like:
c:\MultiMC\MultiMC.exe

Then run that to play Minecraft. There are a few videos in the MultiMC thread that explain how it works, if you need help with the new launcher.
