Whenever I create a new world on 1.4.4 on Ubuntu, I find myself falling in the void with no chunks loaded. If I press a bunch of buttons madly, eventually there will be chunks loaded, but I'll be stuck in place and unable to move (it almost seems like I have a foot caught in a block, when I try to make it gets choppy and just keeps me in the same place).
In short, it's unplayable, but I rolled back to 1.4.2 and corrected the lwjgl files as needed, and it works fine (there's still a bit of "falling in the void", but that I imagine just has to do with the first chunks loading and the fact that it's all on a single player server now). Anyways, for all the bug fixing that 1.4.4 touts it sure seems to have screwed things up pretty bad.
tl;dr New worlds don't work on Ubuntu 12.04 for v1.4.4 but v1.4.2 works fine.

edit; 64-bit system, if that matters.
