Had some crashes... Blue Screens playing MC... but the PC might have some hardware issues.
The last time I played I noticed a dark area with a Enderman above it... flashing in and out. I could not get its attention. Come daylight I went out to find a missing chunk... a pit down to bedrock... and then another. Restarting the game didn't help so I have to assume the chunk data is gone and the save is corrupted which is a shame since I've had this level since spring of last year.
I do have a backup save from a few days back. Is there any way to transfer files from there to the corrupted level and fix it? I'd just use the backup but too much work was done in the interim.
Note... I did strip out all the .mcr files about a week ago.
Got minecraft region fixer... and installed Python 2.7.x as suggested... but the region fixer never starts up... and the support for the program is dated. For instance it mentions files that aren't even in the current version.
Tried replacing the region mca files that were last modified today... with the last region files from the backup... but that didn't help. The pits to hell... the corrupted chunk were still there.
I started again from scratch replacing those region files and the data files... and that tossed me back to a few days to that backup... and all the work done in the past three days is gone.
Problem solved, sort of. I used MC edit to delete the existing problem chunks and though I hoped they would regenerate back to the originals... they became, instead, solid plugs. But that's OK... they weren't in critical areas... and the level is back to normal and playable again. The normal rules of minecraft didn't apply to those holes. It's not as if I could have just covered the holes over.
