I used to be able to play 1.4.2 for as long as I wanted to on normal render settings and fancy turned on at a good solid 70 fps. When 1.4.4 came out BOOM! Lag spikes every few seconds. I even turned down my settings and that did nothing. I installed optifine and still didn't do anything. My pc usually runs minecraft fine! Specs:

Intel Core i3 2.30 GHz
4.00 GB of Ram

I need more than that for specs. I need the version of Java and the operating system.

OS: Win7 Ultimate x64 SP1
CPU: Intel Core i3 2350 2.30 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
Java: 1.7.0_09-b05

I get the same issue, but in the nether i lag so much even wen i have my graphics on fast and have that fps boost mod. It was working fine on 1.3.2

I think I have found the problem.

check what it shows in the command prompt window. it's saving every 10 to 15 seconds pausing the game for a moment before it does so. I think the saving procedure within minecraft is a little much... every 5 minutes or so sounds a lot better than every 10 seconds.

Hmmm I think there is a setting in Optifine where you can change when it saves...I think that may be a problem. :\

I'm having a similar problem. I use to be able to run minecraft at a good 50-70 FPS, but now, I can only run at 20-30 FPS, and every five minutes my FPS goes down to the single digits, and stays that way until I quit Minecraft. I've tried Optifine, but that doesn't help. This is the only update I've had this problem with.

Same issue here... I'd be getting a solid 250 - 350 FPS on every update. Now every 10 - 30 seconds or so, my FPS will go down to the single digits and then stay there for a couple of seconds then go back up to 250 - 350. This is extremely annoying and Optifine does jack s*** ­­. I have NEVER experienced this problem prior to the 1.4.4 update.
