So I'm a little lost here.
I decided yesterday to get back into playing Minecraft, and started looking for a server to play on. I've found a couple that I like, but...
I guess I can't play on them because I hid the "update Minecraft" button, and now I am 1.4.4, and not 1.4.2?
Why can't I play on older servers with a newer version on Minecraft?
How do I roll my game back to the 1.4.2 version so I can access these servers?
Sorry if this is a really noobish question, I swear I googled and searched these forums but I didn't see any information on this. Thanks for the patience and the help!

I'm unsure how to use mods like McNostolgia and don't really know where to find them. : ( I'm really rather new to all of this and don't have a lot of experience. Is there a link and tutorial anywhere for this?
I didn't know I was going to download a BRAND NEW update when I updated, lol.

Moderatorthe only ways to downgrade are to load a backup of the jar you have, or use mcnostalgia to downgrade, multimc can also downgrade
or you can wait for the server to update
