I am trying to connect with a friend on his wifi. We have been doing this every day for about a week now. It has worked flawlessly until today. When I got to his house and opened up my laptop it automatically connected to his wifi, as it has every day. I opened Minecraft and started the world and hit "Open to LAN" He couldn't connect and got the error: Connection Error: connection
It was the same thing when he opened a world to LAN and I tried to connect
I have re-installed java, and we both have the newest version of java. It is not blocked in Windows Firewall. I have disabled firewall completely I have tried direct connect I have tried using Mojang's Minecraft server software
I CAN connect to a world wide server, as can he. so it's something with the host.
KEEP IN MIND THIS IS a LAN connection. No need for the Minecraft Server program, or Port Forwarding, etc.
We think it has something to do with Minecraft 1.4.4 (updated today, and yesterday it worked fine) The problem is we cannot go back to an older version very easily because he has Windows Vista and can not open an older "bin" folder.(and he we will not download anything to do this) __________________________________________________________________
this was alos posted in "servers" but I realized I may have put it in the wrong category
My girlfriend and I are having the exact same problem -- we were playing on LAN perfectly fine with each other until we both updated to the new version, and now there is NOTHING we can do to get rid of the connection error "Connection refused: connect." Please address this immediately, as this is ruining the whole experience for both of us...

Failed to connect to server
Connection refused: connect
He is running XP, I am running Win7. I can play single player and internet games, just not LAN.
I hope there is a workaround or a bug fix for this.
