so there's a nether fortress real close to my portal. I've gone in there a few times, no problem. now when I get near it the game crashes. did it about 10 times, in a row, RIGHT when I get near the fortress. It is quite impossible for me to enter it. I can run around elsewhere, no problem. went back to the overworld and came back into the nether, still crashed.
any help? thanks
UPDATE
I turned the rendering to the low setting, so it isn't rendering far away stuff.
also, only looking at the floor/ceiling seems to help too.
if I allow that area to load, to just crashes the game immediately.
I really don't like imperfection in my world, so it's annoying for me, haha
I haven't modded it out at all yet, and the texture file is the exact same size as the original. I've closed the whole game down different times, and it's still doing it.
When it crashes does it say "saving chunks"? If so then you have the ye' old saving chunks bug. I had this problem in 1.2.4 except it happened in the overworld.
it doesn't say "saving chunks" anywhere that I see, where would I see it?
I'll try reinstalling the whole thing, annoying, but it'll be worth it if it works.
It's actually getting worse, doesn't matter what I'm doing, I'm pretty much stuck
I know how annoying this would be for you. I HATE lag spots.
Maybe you could stare st tha area from far away to get the 'game' used to the pixels and then inch closer.

Sorry, meant 'stare at the'

Lightning flashes bright, then fades away. It never heals, only destroys.
Reinstalled the game, still freezes. It's not nearly as bad when I switch back to the default texture pack, but the texture I'm using I made myself, and is the EXACT same, except for two minor changes within one of the images (I didn't create, add, or reorganize at all).
Also, the problem is still occurring, even with the default texture pack and a reinstalled game...
Well never mind on the whole "default texture pack helps"... it totally doesn't. Right now I'm using default, and I'm still moving 1 meter, exiting to save, then moving another meter and exiting to save... if I don't the game crashes after about 3 seconds of play. only does it when I'm near my first portal back to the overworld.
I'm using a 2012 macbook pro.
Mac OS X 10.7.3
2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
I don't know if anyone will believe this, but it's really interesting.
I tried to go into the Nether the other day, and there was no more freezing for some reason, and I ran in the direction of the fortress. I had a pathway of dirt going so I could find my way. Well only about 50 meters in, and the dirt stopped... I looked around to see if I could find my own way, and everything looked COMPLETELY different. I finally found the fortress, but it was a different fortress. the old one one completely buried, and this new one was over a lava ocean. also, this new fortress was about ten times the size of the old one, and included stairs with nether wart (which the old one didn't have). I ran around in it exploring, and it was so big I got lost many times, and ended up not even exploring it all. I had written down the coordinates of the fortress before this happened, and it matched this new fortress...
I went back into the overworld.
Next time I went into the nether, it started freezing all over again... finally it stopped freezing, who knows why, and now it's back to the old layout, with the old fortress, and my dirt path is back...
somehow my game has two versions of the same game space, and freezes excessively while replacing them???
