I have a MacBook Pro and am running Mountain Lion. It's fairly new, so I still have a lot of free space on it. I got Minecraft the second day I had it, and I logged in through the launcher smoothly. I played for a while, then logged off. Three days later, I've been trying to log back on, but all it gives me is that it "can't connect to minecraft.net." I've visited the website, minecraft.net, and it loads perfectly. I've visited Mojang's website, and it says that the minecraft.net server is running smoothly. I don't understand what's wrong. I have no firewalls on my computer, and have perfect internet connection. I tried it on my desktop, and it connects fine. Help?
double and triple you are filling in your password etc correctly trust me i've typed it 'correctly' loads of times wondering what was wrong until i twigged

It's only a proper update if it breaks something the bugs are a bonus
Normally when it cannot connect to minecraft.net, its bcuz of lack of internet connection and the MC launcher will appear grey w/o the whole MC update info. This time, it showed the update info, but i could not connect.
EDIT:
Going to minecraft.net, it says
i have the same problem right now,5:15pm on Argentina, i'm really scareed because at first it was that my minecraft had a problem but i insalled it back and happened the same so idk what to do without it xD
Currently 2:30pm Central time, and I haven't been able to log on for about an hour or so... Wondering if anyone has heard anything from Mojang as to why or not.
Hmm, I can log in, but I can't connect to any servers. Gets stuck on Logging In...

Okay guys, it's been a while, but I finally figured it out.
Minecraft won't connect to minecraft.net unless it is in the downloads folder or the Applications folder. I had it in a folder named "Games" on my desktop, but that doesn't work for some reason.
Build on and don't grief!
