Hi there! If someone could help me out I'd really appriciate it.
Back in April my son discovered Minecraft and wanted to buy the program so that he could play on the computer (Macbook). I was fine with it, bought it, downloaded it, clicked it to load....it did a sad little hop in my taskbar but that was it. It never loaded. Since I couldn't figure out what the problem was, he chose to play in the browser and that was fine for the longest time. Then some update came out and it stopped working all together. He hasn't been able to play since June I think. Today we gave it another try. It said we needed to update, so we did. It loaded a bit more then it crashed and showed a crash report. I'd love to paste it here, but it won't let me copy it to paste it. And when I go to the location it says the crash report was saved, it's not here.
So if anyone here could maybe help me out....either with playing in the browser or on the computer or if you want to really be a hero and help me fix both, I would really appriciate it as would my 9 year old son!!

Getting a new Mac isn't an option. I have zero issues when we play other online games or use Steam so not sure what would make Minecraft any different.
I appriciate your responses and any help you could offer.
Well, I downloaded a new version of Minecraft but my Mac says it's a broken file. Zipped it is 149 kb in size and unzipped it's only 216 kb not the 270 kb it's supposed to be.
In other news, I can't locate the Application Data file folder....it's hidden.
DUUUUUUUDE!!! I fixed it!!!! I am so flipping happy right now! Thank you all for the help! The program actually works on my Mac....it's still not working in the browser but that's ok!!! *happy dance happy dance*

Can you post what you did to fix it, so others can benefit from it?
Sure no problem!!! I followed this video that Ikke82 posted. I had to try a couple of times because initially I didn't have Minecraft in the downloads location as I had moved it to the Applications folder, but once I moved it back and entered the terminal script it worked fine and I could move it back to the location I had wanted it to be!!! Like I said in my earlier post, it still doesn't work in my browser....it keeps crashing but that's ok.
Are you sure you downloaded Minecraft for Mac and not for Windows?
Download Minecraft.zip (270 KB). Unpack and place Minecraft in your /Applications folder.
If you've done this correctly and still doesn't work. watch this video on how to fix it.
It really helps for macbook users. I believe the browser version of Minecraft is not supported for Mac, so you can try downloading the Mac version of minecraft and start playin'.
