"Weather in Minecraft is fairly rare and does not occur often"
This is an extract from the weather page on Minecraft Wiki. I call BS. Thunder is very, very, very common for me This is very annoying, as I play on creative, and my buildings consist of a lot of wood, and I find them burnt down, because thunder happens every 5 minutes (I mean this literally, no exaggeration). I thought that rain was supposed to put out the fire from thunder pretty quickly, but alas, this is not so on my client for some strange reason. Is there any way that I can reduce or even stop the occurrence of thunder without installing any additional mods?
PS: I do know this section say unmodified, but the only mod I do have is optifine, so it is pretty much unmodded. I know that optifine is not the cause of this, as I tested it in vanilla.
You can't really change the occurrence of thunderstorms in-game, but if you want to avoid them, just go to a desert biome and build there. Apart from that, building underground is another method to avoid thunder.
Strange that the rain doesn't put out the fire almost immediately. The wiki says that if lightning strikes tall grass, it will burn indefinitely, but no other details are given.

I feared as much. Oh well. I might just use the the gamerule command to turn off fire spread.
