Now, I do have an old computer that isn't up to snuff, but usually Minecraft runs fine with fast graphics and short RD. However, whenever I'm in a snow biome the game just lags. I can't play in snow biomes because of it, and I'd prefer it if I can stop avoiding them and be able to play in them. So, can anyone give me advice to solve this problem?

The problem could be that when you tried walking over to a snowy biome you started to generate new terrain, which can cause the lag. If that's not the problem, then try speeding up minecraft in general. Turn off things like bobbing, set fps to max, set graphics to fast, or allocate more memory to mc (look up how to do that).
