I cannot get Minecraft to work post Windows 8 upgrade.
I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series (WDDM v 1.1). I updated the driver for win8 from the AMD website here: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/catalystlegacywin8.aspx. Now at driver version 8.97.10.6, dated 6/19/12
Anyone know a driver that will work? Or other way to get it working? Thanks
I’ve tried running the minecraft.exe in Windows 8:
Bad video card drivers!
-----------------------
Minecraft was unable to start because it failed to find an accelerated OpenGL mode.
This can usually be fixed by updating the video card drivers.

Me and my friend are having the exact same problem only on vista/xp. I have an amd ati radeon hd 3200 and idk what he has. I am also the one who has vista. Please Help!
Same exact issue with the same exact card, I've tried everything. I briefly got it to work yesterday in switching the 4200 graphics with the microsoft basic adapter, but that doesn't seem to be working anymore. I've tried downloading tons of different driver packages, all claiming to be the solution, none of which have made my switchable graphics feature work as it did pre-windows 8.

I have a ATI Radeon HD 3200 and I'm having this same issue when i try and run it in windows 8. but the game still work just fine for me under windows 7
A friend of mine found a solution to this. It involves tricking windows into downgrading the ati driver. This is what he did:
What I did was to download a legacy version of AMD Catalyst for Win 7 (version 12.6).
Then I uninstalled all AMD components via Control Panel and rebooted.
Ran Catalyst 12.6 setup and rebooted. Found that the win 8 version of the Display adaptor still persisted even if I unistalled it specifically via the Device Manager. Of course I couldn't update this backwards to the Win 7 version so I gave up on that method and updated the Windows 8 adaptor to the Microsoft Basic Adaptor. This then allowed me to update from the Basic adaptor it to the Win 7 version and it seems to be working.
I confirm that Balrog226's solution worked. Thank you!!!! Download a legacy version of AMD Catalyst for Win 7 (version 12.6). In Device manager, change to the Microsoft Basic Adapter, reboot. In device manager, navigate to Catalyst folders location specific to 12.6 and install. I had to poke around a bit, but it installed and after a reboot worked fine.
