Hi guys, i am trying to play minecraft on windows 8 and whenever i start it i get this error message:
Bad video card drivers!
-----------------------
Minecraft was unable to start because it failed to find an accelerated OpenGL mode.
This can usually be fixed by updating the video card drivers.

My system the driver i am trying to use is: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series (Microsoft Corporation- WDDM v1.1)
I have tried updating my driver software but it says that it already has the latest driver software.
Find the ".minecraft" folder in your "%appdata%" folder... Type that in the RUN-BOX, in your start-menu.
Then find the file marked "options.txt" and OPEN it with NOTEPAD.
Then change the line that says...
"advancedOpengl:true"
to
"advancedOpengl:false"
Don't select the "Advanced openGL" option again. Obviously, you don't have advanced openGL with those drivers. Now you know.
You should get drivers for that specific card directly from the ATI website. You may be using "Windows safe-video" drivers. They will make most things work, but will not give you the candy that you paid for, which only ATI will turn-on in your videocard. EG, you may be using "software emulation", not "hardware in your videocard", which does NOT have advanced anything... just basic functions, as software is too slow to process anything advanced.
If ATI has no drivers for win8 that work, (which is highly possible), then you have to suffer until they make them. It usually takes a year before anything real stable comes out for drivers. By that time, they give-up on the card, and make a new one. Try running the program in "compatability mode" or something.
Your problem is not advanced OpenGL, your drivers are just out of date. You just got a new OS, after all! As long as your computer isn't rather old, you should be able to update your drivers. Just search YouTube for "Windows 8 minecraft fix"
