Its bad enough I am not in the condition to do much physically with my young son anymore, but he also thinks I can't do much with computers anymore either. Because I havent been able to get minecraft, his favorite game, going on our home computer I know I'm a bit of a disapointment in his eyes. Please help me, with your help, become a hero to him again.
On starting the Minecraft client, we get to the point where we login. When we have, the window goes black for a couple of seconds then closes.

Yhunder, yes you are wrong. The OP has a 32bit CPU, a 32bit OS and of course, 32bit Java.
buddyminecraft, you've never had minecraft running on this computer, right?
It's possible that the -Xms1g is causing you trouble, because you don't really appear to have enough memory for that.
But much more likely is the fact that you have a SiS graphics card and they are notorious for having poor Open GL support, which minecraft depends upon. I'm not aware of anyone who's gotten past this problem without replacing their video card.
Sorry for the bad news.
It's possible that using a program like McNostalgia, you might find that versions of Minecraft pre Beta 1.8 might work for you, but I'm not sure about that.

I am running 32bit XP home sp3 and if I read the log (attached) right, it is 32bit Java. Am I missing something here?
No, that was my point. This is a normal and valid configuration.
.when I run minecraft.exe directly (without the minecraft-report.bat) it still shuts down so why would the -Xms1g make a difference?
I didn't necessarily think that it did, but it wasn't the default set of settings, and sometimes a lack of free ram causes video drivers to fail to initialize properly (they need memory to do their jobs too).
.The SIS card is integrated into this laptop so i cant see how I can use a different adapter. any suggestions?

Unfortunately I don't know. If there is a driver that works, I haven't seen anybody come back and post that they found it and got their SiS working. It's possible that SiS has an updated video driver or as you say there are some video game enthusiast web sites out there that sometimes post their own modified drivers to fix unsupported drivers. But.. I think they focus on more mainstream hardware.

Its bad enough I am not in the condition to do much physically with my young son anymore, but he also thinks I can't do much with computers anymore either. Because I havent been able to get minecraft, his favorite game, going on our home computer I know I'm a bit of a disapointment in his eyes. Please help me, with your help, become a hero to him again.
On starting the Minecraft client, we get to the point where we login. When we have, the window goes black for a couple of seconds then closes.
Our computer is an ACER ASPIRE 3000 running XP HOME SP3

buddyminecraft, you've never had minecraft running on this computer, right?
It's possible that the -Xms1g is causing you trouble, because you don't really appear to have enough memory for that.
But much more likely is the fact that you have a SiS graphics card and they are notorious for having poor Open GL support, which minecraft depends upon. I'm not aware of anyone who's gotten past this problem without replacing their video card.
Sorry for the bad news.
It's possible that using a program like McNostalgia, you might find that versions of Minecraft pre Beta 1.8 might work for you, but I'm not sure about that.

No, that was my point. This is a normal and valid configuration.
I didn't necessarily think that it did, but it wasn't the default set of settings, and sometimes a lack of free ram causes video drivers to fail to initialize properly (they need memory to do their jobs too).
Unfortunately I don't know. If there is a driver that works, I haven't seen anybody come back and post that they found it and got their SiS working. It's possible that SiS has an updated video driver or as you say there are some video game enthusiast web sites out there that sometimes post their own modified drivers to fix unsupported drivers. But.. I think they focus on more mainstream hardware.
