So i've been having an intermittent issue, when i startup minecraft none of the sounds work, not menu clicks not music, not mobs or environment. nothing. if i closed minecraft and reopened it a few times i'd get sound again. well since 1.4.2 i get no sound, despite numerous restarts of game and pc. anyone ever seen a similar issue?

Minecraft downloads sounds from Mojang every update and that may be why you aren't hearing any. It does take a little while so just keep Minecraft open while you go do something else and they should download ifne.
If you've been running Minecraft for a while nonstop and no sounds have appeared, check your computer sound and there may be a problem there intstead. Other than that, I have no idea.
