Today I was playing Minecraft and decided to download a texture pack. I downloaded version 1.4.0 and kept Minecraft open while I ran it. Then I made a folder of my texture pack, then dropped Minecraft into it (And that's how I usually get texture packs to work) and nothing worked. So I got Minecraft out of the folder and then threw away the McPatcher and Texturepack into my trash bin (I have a mac, Version Mac OS X)
and then ran minecraft. It would let me log in, then I quickly saw the 'Updating' screen, and the screen goes black from there no matter how long I waited. I kept re-downloading Minecraft and trying to find out what the heck was going on, and nothing worked. Please help! I don't want to get Minecraft again or a new computer!

If you have nothing important in your minecraft/bin folder, delete it and run a Force Update.

That sounds nothing like what you're supposed to do
