So at my school the computers only give certain programs access to appdata, programs that only the admin can set. In an attempt to run minecraft on these computers I followed this tutorial to make it work on my USB drive, but it still doesn't work. That method just sets the appdata folder to "data" on the drive during runtime, and Windows still blocks access to it even though it's not the real appdata.
My question is, is it possible to make minecraft run out of a folder separate to appdata? Something like:
C:\Documents and Settings\Users\User\Desktop\.minecraft\
or would I have to mod minecraft myself to use a different directory? Because at the moment my computer is with UPS on it's way to it's new home, so I don't have MCP to get the source of 1.4.2.
You can use, multiMC. Make a folder for it on your USB dongle and it will run from within that folder. It also keeps all your saves in that folder. So it will run fully of the USB drive.
