I recently bought a new laptop with etremely good performance. Within that I have 8Gb DDR3 internal memory and an Nvidia GeForce graphics card with 2gb specialy allocated video memory.
Now I have an issue. My minecraft appears to devour a LOT of video memory, more than my older laptop (with a regulair builtin Intel video card and only 4gb working memory) and whenever I don't even play 10 minutes already, the game cuts off it's progress and says that my video memory is out of free memory.
I also have sudden laggspikes on SP maps, possibly also from this issue.
Some extra information, when I press F3 it says that theres 494Mb RAM reserved for minecraft. However, as soon it hits only 20% already, this screen pops up. I really need some help here.

You want to be a dragon? Well, then you need to have wings, a passion to hoard, and have a deadly breath.
Oh, and did I forgot to tell you dragons are extremely territorial? ROAWR >:)
To me it sounds like either a bad java install, that java is running wild with the memory it's using, or something else on your system is using up all of your memory, as unlikely as that is with 8bg of memory it's something to look at.
Out of Memory errors come when minecraft isn't able to access the memory allocated to it, meaning something else is using it up.
While you are running minecraft, take a look in task manager and see what is using memory.
If it's java, I'd unistall java and reinstall the latest version from here: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
If it's something other then java, you'll need to look at what it is that's using up all of the memory.
Something else to note, is that many laptops use dual graphics controllers. They'll switch to an integrated chip on programs it doesn't think need the dedicated gpu, java apps normally fall into that category. I'm not sure of how that works on systems with and nvidia card. On AMD/radeon systems, it's in the AMD Control center. So you may want to look in your nvidia controll panel and see if there is any thing about dual display. It could also be in the power saving functions of the laptop itself. Finally it maybe something you need to change in the BIOS.
