Hello all. Yesterday, after watching it on such Youtube programs as the Yogscast for who knows how long, I purchased Minecraft. Then I downloaded the client.
And then this happened.
Bad video card drivers!
-----------------------
Minecraft was unable to start because it failed to find an accelerated OpenGL mode.
This can usually be fixed by updating the video card drivers.

After some trouble-apparently Internet Explorer does not like Intel's website-I managed to find an update for my video driver, but I still get essentially the same error report-though, of course, I doubt I'd notice if there's a seperate code or something and I didn't bother reading past the first chunk of the first error report and, sadly, didn't think to record it either.
I am trying to run the game on an HP Pavilion a1214n, the operating system is Windows XP Media Center Edition, and the video driver displays as an Intel r 82945g express chipset family. I already tried the automatic update software available from Intel's website, which told me to go to the provider, at which point I went to HP and downloaded the one video driver update they showed.
Please help me fix this.
Money aside, I already kinda wasted a day designing an economy for a modded Minecraft server and laying out designs for a company.
Oh....great. Well, seeing as I'm playing on the family computer instead of my laptop, which won't actually play it, it sounds like I'm going computer shopping.
Well, at least I'm apparently smart enough to make myself helpable. Thanks for the response.

Copy and save it as a text file, save it as a batch (.bat)
" java -Xms640m -Xmx800m -jar Minecraft.exe "
You would have to run it in the same folder as your game, unless you give a path. It should work, it did on our XP. I wouldn't say that it would run smooth, but, it's already outdated.

That maybe the best bet. I've had trouble in the past trying to get someone up and running on a Intel r 82945g express chipset.
If I am remembering correctly, we couldn't find a driver that supported the required version of OpenGL.

I tried it and got the same error message. Thanks for the help.
To be sure, because it seems like a mistake I might make, does it go to the folder where the actual launcher is or the jar? Just thought I'd confirm before I start messing with the jar. I may, in all honesty, have already been planning to put all kinds of mods in there to the point where I was looking into the Technic Launcher just so I'd have three sets of mods to play with, but that's not something I'm going to mess with lightly when the vanilla version doesn't wanna work yet.

The batch file (.bat) goes in the same location as the launcher (minecraft.exe)
My 11 year old son has fallen in love with this game in demo and has paid to become a premium member of his own savings but when we try to install it or play online it comes up with the video card driver error report.

We have Windows Vista Home Premium and having looked at all the previous posts about this I've extracted the information from DirectX Diagnostic Tool (here is the important part which seems to suggest we have no video card drivers). Any suggestions for which ones we should get that will work with Minecraft? Thanks.

Hello. It looks like the model of Dell you have came with 2 different video card. Unfortunately, the DxDiag isn't telling which of the 2 your particular system came with.
So I'm going to link you to both, the one that is wrong shouldn't complete the install it will tell you that no compatible devices were found or something similar to that.
And then this happened.

Retired StaffHello.
First try the driver for the Nvidia card that was shipped in that model.
http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/49891
Second, if the above didn't work, try the driver for the AMD/ATI card that would have shipped in the system.
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonaiw_vista32.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.13&lang=English
However, as that doesn't seem to be materialising, I have come up with my own solution.
Anyone have a recommendation for a Minecraft-capable computer on a budget?
