ok, this is a former bukkit server, due to the update to 1.4.2 from 1.3.2... during 1.3.2 we've had no issues at all... but once we updated the server to 1.4.2 we've been getting this error with a Minecraft crashing for those who hop on the server:

it keeps pointing toward that it's possibly a client issue of some sort, but if that's true, then there's nothing that i personally can do about it since i've literally tried about everything that i can think of including removing mod information, multiple force updates, and even updating my java to 1.7.0_09.
i am curious if instead this could be a possible server issue with some of the previously saved world infornation rather than it being a problem with the client.
what else is odd, when a player gets on the server in 1.4.2 version for the first time, sometimes they'll actually remain on the server until another player gets on... it's not a very big server, just big enough until we decide we want to whitelist more people. it's so small that it only has 8 slots.
the update has left the server currently without any mods nor plugins, not entirely sure how much that effects everything else due to the fact that there was ideally a lot of code change between the two versions of minecraft, i asked the server owner if that could be a possibility, but he seemed pretty sure that that shouldn't be the case. has bukkit been known to do anything like this between updates? i also wonder if the fact that we've been managing a Minecraft-Servers.com type of server could have anything to do with it by the way it's set up to manage after the server. you literally just browse for the mod file or pluggin you want applied and it'll set it up for you and just request a restart.
for the most part we just don't want to completely reset the server due to the many huge projects we've been working on/still are working on.
Edit: plugins we had with bukkit are world edit, be herobrine, izone, more player models, disguise craft (but never shown on the server for some reason), and endercrystalizer.
