I've had this for as long as I can remember playing MC but I've kept quiet about it until now, where it's really starting to get on my nerve. It wasn't so bad before but it's gotten to the point where I can't do any action unless I hold the key pressed down for 5 seconds. Used to be that FPS would drop to low teen's but now it's always 1.
Basically, my fps typically runs at 50+, which is decent enough. But every few minutes, a giant wave of unbearably huge lag hits my game. My fps literally drops down to 1. This lasts for some 15 seconds or so and then it vanishes just as quickly as it came. Fps back up to ~60, sometimes 100+ if there's nothing much to render (inside my small home, for example). Then, another 5-10 minutes later, a second wave hits, and my fps once again drops to 1 (not 3 or 5 or 7, but 1). This goes on, and on, and on, and on, and never stops.
my specs are:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate, 32-bit, Build 7600 (6.1)
System Model: Dell XPS M1530 (laptop series)
BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A12
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.40 GHz (T8300)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
DirectX Version: 11
RAM: 4 GB
Additional notes:
- I do have mods installed (Optifine included), but this problem occurs in vanilla minecraft as well, so I highly doubt mods have anything to do with it.
- People have recommended Optifine, but, as you can see in the previous point, it's of no help.
- I followed all the steps under the Tips and Tricks section in the Optifine mod page, including launching the game in limited memory (350). I used MultiMC instead of Magic Launcher, though.
- I installed the latest driver for my GPU last night, so an outdated GPU can't be the problem.
