Since I've upgraded to 1.4.2, I have been having trouble with an issue regarding a very expeditious and annoyingly noticeable lag spike. It happens ever 2-or-so seconds and regardless of settings it does not want to stop.
I have tried Optifine settings (regarding performance and quality), assigning more RAM, and doing a fresh re-installation of Minecraft.
Specs (which shouldn't be an issue) --
CPU: i5-2500k quad @ 4.0ghz
GPU: nVidia GTX560Ti 2GB
RAM: 8GB DDR3: 1-2GB allocated to Minecraft
