A really decent suggestion would be to fix your updater. There are WAY too many issues with updating Minecraft and there really should not be any issue to such a simple process.
Failed to Launch
Fatal error occured (4): Connection refused
There is no issue with the connection, no firewall issue, and no virus scanner. Network is sound and other java programs do not have difficulties connecting. So.. this leaves what?
The Launcher wouldnt be the cause of the problem so i suggest
Turning Restarting your Computer
Restart your Internet Modem
Or just leave your computer and come back to it later
Hope i helped
Thank-you for your input. The network is sound, so no need to restart connection, and restarting machines is just plain lazy. (This is a M$ shortcut)This problem surfaced around the 1.2.5; up until then, no issues at all.
Ok.. Humble pie has been served to me. The problem resides on my system and I do apologize for indicating that it is an update problem.
Executed the minecraft install process in virtual machines using Ubuntu and Windows XP platforms. Both installed and updated without issue. The Ubuntu install, since I am a GNU/Linux user, was extracted and applied to my troubled install. Everything is right as rain now.
