Help! For Months now i have not been able to play minecraft due to a Very annoying bug, i call it the "Dark Shadow" bug.I have spent alot of time searching for answers and i have found nothing helpful
Actual Bug, This issue is causing Very ugly looking shadows which prevent me from enjoying the game, Its hard to explain so i took alot of screen shots.
The following are screenshots of the bug.(taken on a new map)
In this screen shot we see a Giant shadow and strange looking Light, on the far end of the photo
Here we see the bug on the side of a small hill.
the bug on the side of a mountian.
the Shadow bug on the side of a wall.
another shadow bug on the side of a wall.
a shadow bug over a small body of water.
As you can see, these are Vary annoying and prevent me from enjoying the game and thus i dont play it. i have a AMD graphics card {(thats caused a few problems before, like a Line bug)-which i Fixed after doing research and finding out what i need to change in settings and what not} i have spent days and days looking for a fix, but havent found 1. i have seen people witht he same problem but never was a fix said other than walking close to he shadow and it going away (Thats NOT a fix).i have no mods and i do have advanced shadows on, when its turned off the problem is still there only they are Even darker. i have loaded several maps and i always find the same bug.
i can tell you that this bug only appeared after the 1.3 update, and sadly has Never gone away.
I need help Badly, if you need any more information that could help you produce a answer/fix just reply and ask! i need your help people!
This, I assure you, is not caused by your computer or any of its hardware or software, it is merely a bug in Minecraft's lighting system. They tried fixing it in the next update, I'm not entirely sure whether they will be successful. I find it annoying too.
No problem, and yes, everyone gets those. I recall that they did come up with a new lighting system where those are not a problem, but it caused a lot of lag, presumably because they were constantly checking for errors like those by updating the lighting. I don't know if they're working on another system, but they did scrap that design.

i think dinnerbone said 1.5 is more likely to be the graphic fix as like you said, the new lighting he made for 1.4 causes too much lag
Yeah, I just created a post on the same thing. This popped up in my world a few months ago, and it has literally killed any interest I had in playing Minecraft at all. I spent a lot of time building something, and it's ruined by this shadow glitch. I know that this issue has been around for several major patches.
So, this bug hasn't been resolved yet? I have smooth ligthing set on maximum and game patched
with MCPatcher, but I still keep getting lots of these. Any workaround?
No. The reason these occur involves Minecraft's lighting code that saves a lighting value for each side of a block. Sometimes, in world generation, these values are messed up for whatever reason, and the only fix is to update the lighting by standing in the block, changing lighting nearby, or breaking and/or placing blocks.
