Before someone links me to another page, yes I have tried many things people have suggested on the minecraft forums. I am here to ask for help on some lag I have been having. I usually play with minecraft and firefox open, normally I have nothing else open. For the last month or so I have noticed that my framerate has dropped by at least half. I haven't thought much of it and thought it may just go away. I recently created a new account on my computer, which would have no files accept for minecraft. My fps doubled after doing this, even after installing optifine they went even higher. My normal fps on my main account is usually 15-25, on my newly created account I got 40-60. I know this isn't much compaired to most people but it effects me greatly when playing. To sum this up I am here to get any suggestions for downloads or any methods that can clean up a mac, I have tried many applications before but they have all costed money. I am willing to pay some but I'm just asking if there is anyone out there that has any simple methods to help clean out my computer. And if this helps, I am running Mac OS X 10.7.5. Thank you for reading and thank you for helping in advance.
Don't pay for applications that tell you that speed up your PC or MAC. In fact, don't use them. Computers don't get slow from unused shortcuts or registry entries that aren't used. They get slow from hoards of applications all starting and running at the same time. Usually the tune up crap itself is making things slow.
What kind of MAC do you have? How fast is it?
I'm not really computer savvy so if I sound stupid bear with me, I usually play on a Macbook Air. My processor is 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Macbook Airs aren't meant to run minecraft, I'm mainly just looking for a solution to my fps drop.
But wouldn't I have noticed the fps loss from the beginning? Not it decreasing over time?
Thanks for the tip, I will try to clean up some useless files or something. Thanks for the help
