I recently downloaded mine craft and was about to build an item from with the sticks and leather that you need. I had the 8 sticks around the edge of the crafting screen with the piece of leather in the middle, however, the production screen didn't show the item frame like it should.
I uninstalled java, uninstalled minecraft, updated java to it's most recent version, re downloaded minecraft, forced an update, and tried to craft it again, but to no avail.
Has anyone else had this problem? Supposedly I'm on the 1.3.2 update, but i can't craft an item frame OR a cobblestone wall.
All those features you're speaking of are in the recent snapshot. I see that you're new to minecraft and the forums, so you'll probably have trouble with installing the snapshots. Snapshots are things that are put out for download every friday/thursday, so you can have a look at the new features coming out in 1.4 and look for bugs to report to mojang. You don't automatically update to the snapshot when you're on the launcher, download it on the minecraft forums (Just scroll down the news page and you'll find the most recent)
I feel sorry for you and how you wasted your time updating java. Just remember the java virtual machine doesn't change in game features, only affects the performance and how the game runs.
I hope it helped. Just don't ask how to install mods.
To all of you people who think Notch is still working on the game, he stopped working on Minecraft in late 2011. Get your facts straight and stop spamming his twitter about Minecraft updates.

Thank you very much for this information. Sorry I'm so noobish. Will look for the snapshot to install it.
