I recently got a new mac, so I decided to try out Minecraft demo, but whenever I try to install it, this happens:
Fatal error occurred (2): The working directory could not be created: /Users/ ~~~~ /Library/Application Support/minecraft
I have tried creating a minecraft folder myself but the same thing happens. Please help ASAP, I really want to see if MC is worth buying, and whether it works on my computer at all.
Go into terminal, and type the following command: cd /Library/Application\ Support/ && ls -la
Select the output, copy it, then paste it into a reply to this message (please quote me, otherwise I won't see it). Please wrap it in code tags first. Like the example below:
“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.” — Albert Einstein
"Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig." — Robert Heinlein

I think I see the issue. First of all, make sure you are only using the official launcher from Minecraft.net. Then, run this command: "cd ~/Library/Application\ Support/ && rm -f minecraft"
After that, launch Minecraft (don't use a portable launcher, use the one from Minecraft.net), log in, and it should download everything and set it all up.

You, sir, are a legend.
Thank you so much for getting MC to run on my Mac.

Retired StaffOh, I told you the root path, not the user one. Sorry. Try again with "cd ~/Library/Application\ Support/ && ls -la"

Ugh. I see my failed download of MC is in there.
