So I've had this one world since Beta 1.2. Way back in February of 2011. I've done crazy amounts of work on this world and everytime I'm looking for something easy to just run around in I come back to this world. Anyways, I haven't played since before the lastest minecraft update and went to go to it today...and **it hit the fan. I updated the world and logged in and ran around in the chunk I was in for a little while just trying to get my barrings and everything. Then I decided to head back to this epic castle I built several chunks down from where I was at when I realized that something wasn't right. I could tell that the rest of the Minecraft world had re-rendered around the chunk my player was last in before the update and everything outside of that chunk was now completely gone. I'm coming to you guys for the first time to look for some help. I run the game on a mac and haven't learned how to used mcedit at all but I'm willing to learn in order to get this place back. Backdating my minecraft or anything. I was very sure about not pushing the 'Save and Quit' button at the end and just red dotted out but I'm afraid it still may of saved so no luck there. Any help from you guys would be awesome. thanks again,
I would hate to agree with you but I think I might have. I've updated it so many times in the past but apparently something was different with this one. If you have any suggestions other than from now on backing it up I'd be up to hear them though. And how would you back it up on a mac. I'm not quite sure.
If you're using Windows 7, you MIGHT have a chance. Right click your saves folder, properties, then there is a tab called previous versions. Click the date when it was working. It should open it in a separate window. Then just get your save file and drag it out of the window. This will let you get it before you updated. Also if you wanted to reverse like you never updated at all, right click .minecraft, properties, then previous versions. I hope this helps.
That's kinda what I had in mind but I was wondering how I would go about doing that on a Mac if at all possible. I realize I don't get the same freedoms as Windows users so this may be a major time it bites me.
Berwout,
Where would I find that copy to save, I'm having a hell of a time fiinding the save files on this computer since it's been almost two years since I've seen them.
Okay guys, good news! I got curious as to what exactly all got removed in the update and started walking around. To my surprise, the world stopped rerendering at a certain point and my old world was back! So everything in my old part was back and nothing was changed. I realize this is pretty lucky so i'm wondering how to back up a world on a mac. Any help there would be appreciated and i would also like to say to not give up on your world if this happens to yours so goodluck everyone.
all good things,
