Hello! Not too long ago, I decided to use MC Nostalgia to downgrade to Alpha 1.0.15, and made extra saves for my old worlds before downgrading. A bit later, when I re-updated Minecraft, several worlds had completely vanished, even after re-adding my old save files, including my very first world. I'm really starting to miss these worlds, and have been trying for a while to get them back, but nothing has worked. Can someone please help me out?
The oldest versions of Minecraft just had "World 1" "World 2", etc. right?
I could imagine that when you changed back to a more modern version of MC that it assumed this was an upgrade and took only those worlds. Now the question is what happened to the old "new" worlds?
To answer that question you should search for "level.dat" files on your computer. There's one for each saved world.

Alright, I found the files, Including several for my lost worlds. What should I do with them?
each directory that has a level.dat in it is a world.
So if you found \something\or\other\Glacier\level.dat then move the "Glacier" directory into your saves directory: %appdata%\.minecraft\saves
The problem, is that it's already in my minecraft.jar saves folder... and even though it is, I can't play on the world when I open up Minecraft. Sorry if I misunderstood you...
the saves folder is not in minecraft.jar or at least it isn't supposed to be.
I think you need to get a screen capture of Windows Explorer that shows us, on the left tree view all the folders that are in .minecraft/saves, on the right view the contents of one of the "missing" worlds, and upload that somewhere, link to it here, and explain which of the directories are visible and which are invisible in Minecraft.
Here's an example of the screen cap I'm looking for. Expanded Tree on the left, and a world folder on the right.
[That's a lot of worlds.. how do you keep all the New Worlds' straight?]
How many of these worlds are giving you a problem?
Did Soulfang's Den ever show up after being converted to Anvil?
Some world's initially failed conversion if I remember right.
Other thing is that it seems weird that the players and regions folders have been modified recently, but the level.dat hasn't been modified in quite a while. Have you checked that the file permissions are okay? You didn't run as administrator or something at some time in the past and perhaps make the files protected as a side effect?
You can right click on the column names in Explorer and enable the "Owner" column, then make sure that all the files and folders in there are owned by you.
If it's been missing for a while it has nothing to do with your adventures with McNostalgia...
It could just be a generic 'missing world' problem, which usually has to do with corruption.
If voordal's still offering his fixing service you can find it at http://mcsaver.net/
I checked out that site and sent him an email. Thanks so much for telling me about it! I hope he'll be able to fix it, and if not, I'll post here. Thanks again!

The new worlds do show up in the current version of MC, and they showed up when I had downgraded it.

I'm not letting this die until I figure out if it's possible to get my worlds back.

You know... a disk drive 'thing' that has more than one file in it but isn't an archive?

I had to take two separate pictures, as my lost world (SoulFang's Den) was pretty far down the world list.

I can't even entirely remember, most likely several worlds that I hadn't progressed quite as far in, or that I had just started up.
I re-upgrated right before Anvil was released. The world wasn't showing up then, either, and even after I updated the game it was still missing.
I don't think I did... Is there anything in certain I should be looking for?
