Normally on my computer, Minecraft runs fine at about 60-70 FPS, but today when I tried to play it, it was mostly only running at 10-20 FPS, and GameRender was filling most of the circle graph (usually it's something else). I am using a 64 bit windows with 64 bit java installed, I tried reinstalling it several times, I tried playing playing other games to find that they ran fine as usual, and I even tried a system restore to a time before this problem existed. Does anyone know what this is or how to fix it?

There are a few things you can do to help but I don't know about fixing the problem. You can turn your renter distance down and graphics to fast. Go into the Task Manager and then on the Processes Tab and right click on java.exe and Set Priority to High. Also make sure you click on Set Affinity and make sure all cores are on for java.exe. If you are using a laptop set Power Plan to High Performance. If you are in an area where there are a lot of trees such as a jungle or a forest it could be contributing to the lag. Go into msconfig by clicking on your start button and typing it in and hit enter. Go over to Startup tab and click Disable all and restart your computer. You also might want to install Opifine for the version of Minecraft you are using. Also note if you just updated from 1.2.5 to 1.3.2 that a server now runs off your single player world for Lan connections.
I realize there are settings i can lower and things i can do to increase performance, but what I don't understand is where this problem came from/what is causing it. Nothing really changed between the time that Minecraft was functioning fine and now. If anyone knows, that would be most helpful.
Okay, I think I settled this problem now. I'm not sure why it was running fine before, but my opengl_version was 3.0.0, and I updated it to 4.2.0. Now Minecraft is running better than ever before at 100fps!
I may have been wrong before when I mentioned that my circle graph usually wasn't mostly GameRender, because now the circle graph has GameRender covering roughly 82%, and the game is running fine.
