any help please? I can't run local on the linux server / must run remote - how do I run the game so my son and his friends can play? is there a client software?
Ok. I have run servers on Ubuntu before for a short time but hopefully this may help. If you want to run in on your Local internet you can try to get your local ip. Now I know how to do that on Windows however to get your local ip on Linux I am not so sure. You can try to go to Google and type in "How to get your local ip on linux (For whatever version)". Hopefully you will find something. Then when you find that they can on their computers add that IP as long as you turned it on all ready in the console. But in the server settings you HAVE to add that IP in where it says Server IP. Once you do that on their computers they add it to their server list (The server list meaning in Multiplayer in Minecraft Where is says add Servers they add it there). Then you turn on the server using the Console that you get from the Server Software that you downloaded. Then they can play. If you are wanting to set it up so that they can play also on a different internet connection then you will have to port forward. Then you can find out your public ip by just typing on Google "What is my IP?"
Hopefully this helped. If it didn't then I must of sounded to confusing. xD Please ask if you still need help figuring it out.
So i am gathering that there is some client software then? I guess that is true from this statement you made: Multiplayer in Minecraft Where is says add Servers they add it there
Mcmyadmin is up and running and reachable from my IP.
Ok. Well. Client software is the game itself. ^^ You need you kids to download the game off of www.minecraft.net
That is the client software. They add the ip in their list in the actual game. I don't understand however. Where did you download the files to run the server? Did you download Bukkit or Vanilla?
Ok well they need to download vanilla as well. On www.minecraft.net. If you are running a Minecraft server on your computer I suggest using just Vanilla Server Client not MCMyAdmin. I dont know much about it but to me it sounds like it isnt working for you. You can also get more help on the web.

How?
Run the Server Console, that should get the Server up running. Then, go to Multiplayer, Select Direct Connect and type in ''localhost''.
I installed the server on a LINUX vhost, so i can't 'play' on local host. I need to connect to my server over the internet.
This is your answer
so they just do that in browser and there is no other software required? Cool.
Thanks.
that does not seem to work?
Hopefully this helped. If it didn't then I must of sounded to confusing. xD Please ask if you still need help figuring it out.
