I just got Minecraft today and am trying to figure everything out. I tried installing snapshots and also want to try some mods like Tekkit. The .jar is not in my bin folder, can anyone help?

Go to Computer and type ''Jar'' into the Search Bar. If it's not there, you must have deleted it accidentally.
How could I have deleted it? I haven't touched anything. How can I get it back?
If you followed my method and did not find it still, Run Minecraft. You should find the Jar in your .Minecraft Folder. You might have Extensions hidden as well.
I selected 'Show hidden files and folders' and unchecked 'hide extentions for known file types' but it still wont show up. whenever I try to open something called "minecraft.jar" it says "a java exeption has occurred"
There are a couple videos in that thread that explain how to use the program. I know how to mod the jar manually, but still use multimc because it just makes it so easy.

Retired StaffIn the search box, you need to type %appdata%
then go into the .minecraft folder
then go into the bin folder
If you have the file extensions hidden, it will just be named Minecraft, but should be the only file with that name inside the bin folder.

Retired StaffDo you have file extensions hidden?
IF it isn't there, it will re-download it.
P.S. minecraft.jar can be called minecraft if extensions disabled.

Retired StaffClick tools top bar of the window
folder options
View tab.
Check 'Show hidden files and folders'
uncheck 'hide extentions for known file types'
To get to your folder options, open any folder and click Organize if using W7 and dropbox will show it

Retired StaffIf you are new to modding, I'd really suggest using multiMC to install mods. It's a lot easier.
