I have been getting a strange error with minecraft after a random interval of time. Only while playing minecraft, my monitor will turn off as though my video drivers crashed. Then about two seconds later it turns back on and minecraft freezes, forcing me to run task manager to recover control of my computer.
My video card drivers are up to date and I am running java 64bit on win7 64bit. I only have one java installation on this computer. So what could the problem be? My video card doesn't report any driver failure, and I don't hear any audible changes in the sounds coming from my box (e.g. fans) when this happens.
I would really like to get this fixed because it is a pain playing with this random crash in multiplayer and when I try to record singleplayer gameplay.
Well, it doesn't pop up with an error at least. Do I need to check some error log file? I have had problems with minecraft for a long time, and only recently started playing it again. So I skipped about 5 months of content, got the newest version, and ever since I started playing this time around I've had this problem. I originally thought it was my video card itself, or something with the monitor, but then I realized it was only happening during minecraft.
I've never had this happen with totally vanilla Minecraft, but if you have mods of any kind that might be causing the problem. I can't think of any other reason, but if it keeps happening and it's not the mods I suggest uninstalling Minecraft (you can get your saved worlds out of the .minecraft file and keep those, though) then restarting your computer to make sure all the files are uninstalled. Do a defragmentation of your hard drive and run a full system scan with your virus software, then reinstall Minecraft and see what happens.
Finally, if that fails I suggest backing up all your important files and wiping the computer via the reinstall disks then starting with your computer from scratch. If Minecraft still gives you the same problem after all that then chances are it is actually something with the hard drive in the computer and for some reason it's either honing in on Minecraft or it's causing problems with other programs that you either aren't noticing or are chalking up to other things.
