I have looked on the forums and else where and have not been able to find a successful solution to my problem. I have recently started playing often since the release of 1.3. I play on a server ran by students at my university and I am continually getting disconnected and getting the error.... internal exception: java.net.socketexepction: connection reset. My roommates who also play on the server have no issues. The server itself is updated and we are all playing on the same MC release. I would like to play without getting disconnected continuously. I decided to make my own post to see if I could find some solutions. Thank you.
I think its your internet connection. Are you on a LAN server or are you just using a normal connection with "1176262727266" ? Try resetting your internet connection, if that doesn't work try re-downloading the client and try again... Good luck.
You can get connection resets if your computer has an IP address conflict with another device on the network.
that actually makes sense. 2 of my roommates play on the same server with me. But only 1 of them consistently plays when I do. and we have a dynamic map online that has a chat. (and it connect your name with your IP) And We've had issues with him chatting and showing up as my name and me showing up as his. Just now we tried it and he showed as his and I showed up as his name also. Then i just logged on and logged off and tried typing on the map again and it showed up as my name.
....so if that makes any sense....
Any idea how I can fix this issue or verify it is the problem? We checked IP's and do not have the exact same. I use to play on the same network at my old apartment with my roommate and we never had any issues (this was also before 1.3).
I directly connected to the internet today for a bit and played minecraft with no issues. I just tried again on wifi and was immediately given the same error of connection reset.

It sounds like you have done a good job confirming that it has something to do with the WiFi and your roommate.
If you're sure that the PCs have different IPs, then I'd start looking at your WiFi router. After your connections go through that box, they DO have the same IP because of its NAT function. But at that point your connections should be using different ports and MC at least should have no problem with that, even if your online map/chat does. I suppose if you have some wrong port forwarding rule in place the connections could be getting blurred together there. A low probability would be some bug in the WiFi router firmware (higher if it's some no name piece of crap).
A last resort is always to get rid of your roommate .
ps: you guys have never done any kind of MAC address cloning between your PCs right?
oh yea thanks, We are having trouble with the admin info?
EDIT nevermind.I found it. So what would i check? gonna check with my roommates also who would know more about this than i.
EDIT So ive tried to make a static IP but i think im doing something wrong. I had no internet access at all.
EDIT i followed this video...
I believe i have a static IP address, i did not do anything to the router. I have internet access and am playing. gonna try and wait to see if i get dc'd. i get get dc'd twice to "End of stream" while i was minimizing my game trying to use the forums and load a few sites.
EDIT just got same error but instead of connection reset it said "READ TIMED OUT"
I have been having this problem as well as not being able to log onto my account at all (been having this problem a lot, which is no big deal but I did pay for this and would like to be able to log onto my own account).
Anyway, one day I was able to log on to minecraft.net from the launcher (after doing an email switch) and go on the server, I never had any problems with my server before (paid server on cloudcrafting.com) and the next I wasn't able to log on nor get onto the server.
I have tried getting a new .jar, reinstalling the game, force update (this hasn't been working either despite it saying "Will update!"), reinstalling Java (both version 6 and 7, both 32 and 64 bit), deleting the whole .minecraft folder and getting the game again (which then told me that the game was not installed so I had to put in back all the files from a zipped .minecraft folder in case this happens for it to work). My boyfriend, who's able to get on the server with no problem, has tried getting a new .jar for the server, restarted it, made new worlds and nothing seems to be working.
I absolutely have no clue what to do.
Edit: Turns out I can log in onto my account as well as my server in browser on the Minecraft website, but still can't without on the launcher.

I haven't looked at that video, but I don't trust any tutorial on how to make a static IP to actually guide you through that process correctly.
I wouldn't do that. I would instead just look at any port forwarding or port triggering configuration and make sure that any entries there are correct.
