Recently i upgraded my video card from 5770 Radeon made by Powercolor to a 7950 Radeon made by Gigabyte. When i was playing minecraft on the 5770 i was getting over 100FPS not a problem. Now with this new video i put it i should see far beyond 100 FPS how ever im getting under 60FPS down to around 20FPS in some spots. I even let minecraft take over my 16GB of ram on my computer with no FPS increase. If someone could please help me.
Oh i should probley note that i did remove all drivers and everything for my radeon 5770 card. I have the updated drivers for my 7950 as well.
Hmm....Minecraft may not be compatible with your card, but I highly doubt that.
Other than that, your specs seem fine.
Are you sure you have enough power going to the GPU?

The specs DO seem fine. Have you tried running any other games or programs that are as RAM/CPU intensive as Minecraft? I am thinking this may not be an MC problem.
Rage capped at 60 FPS
Duke nukem forever capped at 60 FPS
World of warcraft over 100 FPS depends were im standing i may see up to and over 300 FPS
Call of duty 4 well over 100 FPS
Minecraft well ......
This done with the highest settings possable with multiple sampling cranked.
just checked both my PCI-e power connectors going to the card and there pushed in right and the card is solidly connected to the board. So yes the card is getting enough power.

Well it doesn't seem to be a hardware problem - so it must be a software problem.
Close all programs when you're running MC, and try re-installing Java.
Helpful programs to close when playing MC:
Skype (absolute RAM and internet *****)
Browsers (they EAT RAM by the 100% full)
Steam (meh but it helps)
Unnecessary crap (AKA BitTorrent and others)
Fresh boot from a restart only loaded the things i needed and still having issues.Even when i got a ton of crap open my memory hardly even peaks. ill try ripping out java as the next step other then that i cant really do any more software wise other then reformating my computer.
Is it the same in a new world? Looking at the screen shot you have a lot going on in that world.
Are you still giving java all your memory? Giving java/minecraft too much memory can cause more issues then not giving it enough. I wouldn't give it more the 2 gig unless you get an out of memory error.
You are updating the drivers from the AMD site rather then windows update, correct?
Yes im getting my AMD drivers direct from AMD not windows. Fresh new world i get strange peaks in FPS i can sky rocket up to 100FPS and stay there and in other spot i can dip down to 40 FPS.
I'm thinking you need to manually allocate more memory to Java. The other games you mentioned aren't Java based, so Java appears to be your problem... like everyone else's.
I just tryed putting more memory to java and seems worse getting bogged down way more. I'm seriously going to go postal on this computer i was getting better if not the same FPS with the 5770 on games. I was getting way better FPS with minecraft on the 5770 as well.
How much RAM did you allocate, and how did you do it? You should only need to allocate about 3GB for some pretty noticeable results.
A few other things to try that are probably unlikely, but worth trying because they are simple to do:
- Re-install Java 64 bit. Could be something hosed up there. (Not sure if you reinstalled 32 bit or 64 bit already.)
- Run a memtest on your RAM, could be a flaw in one of your chips.
- Try putting the 5770 BACK into your system, and run MC. See if the problem goes away. If so, then you've isolated it to your card. It could be a coincidence that something ELSE is acting up, and it just looks like it happened when you switched cards.
Same FPS in minecraft this is on my 5770, I'm getting 59FPS on my test world 141FPS on a world with nothing in it.
Same FPS for call of duty 4 (140)
- 10 FPS For Rage (50)
- 20 FPS For Duke nukem forever (40)
- 30 FPS For world of warcraft (Unplay able in some spots o.o) (30)
Sounds like you know what you're doing, so it's frustrating this is still a mystery. I just hate to be one of those guys who tells you "it's your computer." Uff.
*HOW* did you allocate the RAM, though? For me, when allocating 3GB, I use a BAT file with the following allocation line:
javaw -Xmx3072m -Xms1536m
When I first did this, I had a typo in the allocation and it ran all fouled, similar to what you're experiencing. Maybe it's something really simple like that.
I'll give the one you posted a try and see what happens
Still nothing.
(For some strange reason im getting 14GB of allocated memory when i only told it use 1GB)
Going to try deleting and redownloading minecraft.
((Un-modded fresh copy of minecraft as soon as i zoned in popped up to 222fps soon as everything chunked in i droped down to 100FPS, When i look up at the sun or the sky i get 457FPS lol. render distance: tiny i get 700FPS))
