All you need is the Minecraft launcher, or you can simply play it in the web browser.
If you are using a .bat, then you probably aren't doing it right.
No, he's using the .bat to add memory to minecraft. First, do this instead of running a bat file:
Go to your control panel and search for java. Press the first (and only) result and go to the "java" tab at the top of the window that pops up. Click view. Change the runtime parameters line to say "-Xincgc -XmxXXXM" Where XXX is how much memory you want minecraft to run with. Hit enter, then OK and then apply.
