Do you have the minecraft.jar in the .minecraft/bin folder? I know from experience that I've went to exchange jars (I have several backed up), and got in too quick a hurry, and logged in, only to be frozen in place.
Is your client modded? It may be conflicting mods. I've had this happen as well. If your client is modded, then it will not work on the site in browser.
I'm assuming you've tried forcing it to update, right?
Do you have anything in the .minecraft/mods folder? Something in there might be causing it as well (not necessarily meaning your client is modded, but it trying to load up mods and for some reason it freezes).
Also, all the .exe is, is merely a launcher. You still need a premium account to play (in case you weren't aware). See if "Force update" does anything first off.
If you are using AVG or McAfee anti virus, either of those can block minecraft from downloading files. Try temporarily disabling either of those, and trying to download it again.
i download minecraft and when i log in and try to play the demo it says "updating mineceaft done downloading" and never stops
i have java 7.7 and when i go to this http://www.minecraft.net/demo it never works
what am i doing wrong?
